Planning a Rusutsu Resort summer with kids? We visited Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido during the Obon holiday period in August 2026 and spent the day enjoying the amusement park, outdoor pool, Mokomoko Bubble Festival, Yotei Gondola, night attractions, and fireworks.

What stood out most was how much there was to do beyond the rides. Families can combine the amusement park with swimming, mountain views, indoor play areas, photo spots, seasonal events, and evening entertainment.

On our visit, we arrived at around 9:00 AM, left shortly after 4:00 PM for dinner, then returned at around 7:00 PM for the illuminated amusement park and 8:00 PM fireworks.

What We Did at Rusutsu Resort in Summer with Kids

Online tickets made arrival quick and easy

For our visit on August 14, 2026, I bought an adult Resort 1 Day Ticket online in advance. During the 2026 summer holiday period, the adult walk-up price was 9,100 JPY, while the online price was 7,600 JPY—a saving of 1,500 JPY per adult.

After purchasing, I saved the QR-code voucher on my phone. At the resort, I scanned it at a “TICKET PICK-UP BOX,” and the physical ticket was issued immediately. We did not need to queue at the ticket counter.

The amusement park was manageable even during Obon

We arrived at around 9:00 AM during the busy Obon holiday period, but there was no noticeable wait at the parking entrance or ticket area during our visit.

Hurricane, Space Shot, and Cycle Monorail were among the rides where we saw longer lines. From what we observed that day, the queues looked to be around 30 minutes rather than extremely long waits.

The outdoor pool and Bubble Festival were a highlight

The Outdoor Super Jumbo Pool has large waterslides as well as pool areas where families can relax and play. We also joined the limited-time Mokomoko Bubble Festival.

The foam was much more intense than I expected. Music played while huge amounts of foam filled the area, and children were covered from head to toe. It was one of the most memorable parts of our summer visit.

We wore sandals, which made things much easier afterward. A friend wearing regular shoes ended up with soaking-wet footwear and felt a little cold later, so sandals are a practical choice if you plan to join the foam event.

Yotei Panorama Terrace is worth riding the gondola for

We took the Yotei Gondola up to Yotei Panorama Terrace at an elevation of 715 metres. Unfortunately, thick clouds hid Mt. Yotei during our visit, but there were still plenty of places to enjoy and photograph.

The summit has a giant “RUSUTSU” sign, a large yellow photo frame, a bright pink door-style photo spot, mountain scenery, and a café truck. On the gondola ride down, we could also look over the amusement park, Ferris wheel, resort buildings, and surrounding green mountains.

Rusutsu after dark felt completely different

We returned at around 7:00 PM for the night amusement park. The illuminated rides, hydrangeas, trees, pathways, and Light Maze created a much more atmospheric scene than during the daytime.

One detail we especially liked was the lighting along the paths. It looked beautiful, but it also made the park feel easier to walk through with children after dark.

Summer 2026 fireworks display at Rusutsu Resort

At 8:00 PM, we watched the Summer Vacation Special Fireworks at SunSun Field. Around 1,200 fireworks were launched in time with music during the approximately 10-minute show. It became one of my favorite fireworks displays I had seen around the Niseko area that year.

Buying online saved us 1,500 JPY per adult

Rusutsu Resort amusement park tickets and prices

Parking was straightforward on our visit

Re-entry made it easy to split the day

We left the resort shortly after 4:00 PM, went home for dinner, then returned at around 7:00 PM for the illuminated amusement park and fireworks.

Re-entry was allowed during our visit, but we had to show our day ticket or season pass again at the entrance. We also noticed some guests returning to their hotels for meals before coming back later.

The resort is large, so check your bag before entering

Ruth & Moose Forest Café is marked as No. 61 on the amusement park map. From our experience, it felt quite far from the parking area when I had to go back to the car for something we had forgotten.

If you are visiting with children, it is worth checking that you have drinks, towels, swimwear, spare clothes, and other essentials before walking deep into the park.

Outdoor pool lockers and facilities

At the pool, we found smaller lockers for 200 JPY and larger lockers for 300 JPY. The fee was not returned after use. Showers and toilets were also available.

We were able to bring our own inflatable ring. Pool items were also sold nearby, and we saw 70 cm-or-smaller baby swim rings priced at 300 JPY.

Rusutsu Resort Summer FAQ

Is Rusutsu Resort good for families with children?

Yes. Along with thrill rides, we found several family-friendly options including Merryland, Ruth & Moose Forest, indoor play spaces, the pool, Ferris wheel, gondola, and an indoor carousel. This made it easier to mix active rides with quieter breaks.

Are Rusutsu Resort tickets cheaper online?

They were in summer 2026. During the summer holiday period, an adult Resort 1 Day Ticket cost 9,100 JPY at the regular same-day rate and 7,600 JPY online, saving 1,500 JPY per adult.

How crowded was Rusutsu Resort during Obon?

At around 9:00 AM on our visit, we entered without a noticeable queue. Several popular rides had lines that looked roughly 30 minutes long. Ruth & Moose Forest Café, however, was full around lunchtime, so we ate on the covered outdoor terrace.

Can you bring your own inflatable ring to the outdoor pool?

We were able to bring one during our visit. Pool items were also available for purchase, including baby swim rings marked at 300 JPY, so forgetting one did not mean going without.

Are there lockers and showers at the pool?

Yes. We confirmed 200 JPY smaller lockers and 300 JPY larger lockers, with no refund after use. Toilets and shower facilities were also available in the pool area.

Can you leave Rusutsu Resort and come back later?

We could during our August 2026 visit. We left after 4:00 PM and returned around 7:00 PM. We were required to show our valid day ticket or season pass again when re-entering.

Do you need to reserve a place early for the fireworks?

We did not. At SunSun Field, we found an open place to sit without reserving a spot in advance, and we were also able to leave without major congestion afterward. Conditions may differ depending on the date.

Is Yotei Panorama Terrace worth visiting in cloudy weather?

We still enjoyed the gondola, mountain scenery and photo spots, but thick clouds hid Mt. Yotei during our visit. If your priority is the classic panoramic mountain view, a clear-weather day will give you a much better chance.

Best Time to Visit, Crowds and What to Bring

For the Bubble Festival, bring sandals, towels and a change of clothes

The 2026 Mokomoko Bubble Festival ran from August 8 to 16, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The official guidance advised guests to wear clothes that can get wet and to bring towels and spare clothing.

From our experience, sandals were particularly useful. The foam and water reached our clothes, hair, face and feet, so footwear that dries quickly made the rest of the day much more comfortable.

Ruth & Moose Forest Café gets busy at lunchtime

My elementary-school-aged daughter often used Ruth & Moose Forest as a lunch and rest stop with friends.

The kids’ plate we bought during our visit was 1,000 JPY.

At lunchtime during Obon, the indoor seating was full. We were still able to eat outside under the covered terrace, which worked well even with unsettled weather.

Families visiting several times should compare the season pass

My daughter used a 2026 Resort Season Pass. For children aged 7–12, the regular online price was 22,900 JPY, while the early-bird online price was 19,700 JPY.

During the summer holiday period, a child’s online Resort 1 Day Ticket cost 6,200 JPY. That means families planning several visits should compare the season pass rather than automatically buying individual day tickets each time.

The 2026 Resort Season Pass also included free parking on paid-parking days and a 10% discount at selected fast-food outlets. We saw several local and nearby families using season passes, with some purchasing them during the early-bird period.

Weather matters: Outdoor rides, the gondola and seasonal events may be affected by rain, wind or visibility. Check the operating status on the day, especially if the mountain view is an important part of your visit.

Who Is Rusutsu Resort in Summer Best For?

  • Families looking for a full day of activities with children
  • Visitors who want to combine rides, a pool and mountain scenery
  • Families visiting Hokkaido during summer holiday events
  • Travelers who enjoy photo spots as well as attractions
  • Visitors who want to stay into the evening for illuminations and fireworks
  • Local or nearby families considering several visits in one season

If your main reason for going is a perfect view of Mt. Yotei, your experience will depend heavily on the weather. We visited on a cloudy, lightly rainy day and could not get the classic clear mountain view from Yotei Panorama Terrace.

For our family, however, the biggest surprise was how different Rusutsu felt throughout the day. We could swim and enjoy rides during the day, take a break for dinner, then return for the illuminated park and fireworks.

The Bubble Festival, gondola views, evening lights and music-synchronized fireworks made this much more than a standard amusement park visit. Next time, I would especially like to return to Yotei Panorama Terrace on a clear day.

Plan Your Rusutsu Resort Summer Visit

Rusutsu Resort ticket prices, attraction schedules, pools, seasonal events and evening operations vary by date. Once you know when you are visiting, check the official schedule before finalizing your day.

If you are visiting during the summer holiday period, compare the online ticket price before buying at the gate. Families planning several visits should also check the season-pass and early-bird options before the season begins.
